Hi everyone,
My name is Charlise Stikkelbroeck, and I’m moving from Australia to Rotterdam to start my International Business studies at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
I have a slightly unusual Dutch story. I’m a Dutch citizen and have a Dutch passport, but I was born and raised in Australia and have lived here my entire life. So while my name and passport are very Dutch, my Dutch language skills definitely aren't there yet! I’m hoping that living in Rotterdam will finally give me the opportunity to learn the language and experience the Dutch side of my background properly.
I’m looking for a room in a friendly shared house in Rotterdam, ideally reasonably close to RUAS or with an easy cycling or public transport connection. I’m looking to stay for at least six months, and potentially longer if I find the right house and group of people.
A little more about me: I’m sporty, social and outgoing. Swimming was a big part of my life growing up and I competed at a high level when I was younger. These days I play soccer and generally enjoy being active.
Away from sport, I’m quite social and outgoing, love fashion, going out, meeting new people and doing things with friends. I enjoy being around people, which is one of the reasons I would much rather live in a shared house than on my own. I’d love to find housemates who occasionally cook or eat together, go out for a drink, watch something together or just have a chat after a long day, while still giving each other plenty of space.
Personality-wise, I’d describe myself as friendly, independent and pretty easy-going. Moving halfway around the world on my own probably says something about that! At the same time, I’m not afraid to ask for help when I need it, particularly while I’m finding my feet in a completely new country. And, in the interest of full disclosure, I can also be a tiny bit stubborn sometimes — although I prefer to think of it as being determined!
I’m tidy and respectful of other people's space and would like to contribute to the house rather than simply rent a bedroom. Since I’ll be arriving in Rotterdam without an established group of friends, finding a house with a nice social atmosphere would make a huge difference to settling into life in the Netherlands.
I’ll be in Rotterdam shortly and would be very happy to come by for a viewing and, more importantly, to meet everyone and see whether we click.
If you think I might be a good addition to your house, I’d love to hear from you and learn a little more about the room and everyone living there.
Thanks for considering me, and hopefully see you in Rotterdam!
